Description

Enjoy this simple apple compote made from freeze-dried apples. It’s perfect for topping pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, yogurt, or ice cream. It’s quick to make and packed with concentrated apple flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups Chelan Ranch Organics freeze-dried apple slices (cut into 1/2″ pieces for more consistency)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup apple juice or cider (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey (adjust for sweetness)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp butter (optional, for richness)

Instructions

  1. Rehydrate the Apples
    • In a small saucepan, combine freeze-dried apples with water and apple juice/cider (if using).
    • Let sit for 5 minutes to begin softening.
  2. Cook the Compote
    • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a simmer.
    • Stir in maple syrup (or honey), cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter (if using).
    • Simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples soften and absorb the liquid.
  3. Finish
    • Stir in vanilla extract.
    • Add more water or apple juice if the mixture is too thick.
  4. Serve Warm
    • Spoon over oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, yogurt, or ice cream.
